Joba Takes Home Four Awards From This Year’s Indigo Awards

Joba Studio is excited and proud to announce that we have received four awards from this year’s International Indigo Awards competition! The Indigo Awards is a global contest that seeks to reward exceptional talent in the fields of graphic, digital, mobile design, design for social change and branding. They have just announced their 2022 winners, from contenders drawn from over 50 countries. The judging panel who determines the recipients of these awards included 48 international leading creatives.

GOLD FOR HUE+MAN

Joba took home the Gold in Integrated Graphic Design for Social Change Award for Hue+Man. This project began in early 2020 with the aim of fighting systemic racism in the design industry.

The Hue+Man Design Competition seeks to spotlight emerging designers of color through funding and mentorships. The design competition received thousands of entries from applicants all over the globe! The top ten finalists who were accepted had their work featured in the USM Modular exhibition at Design Miami 2022.

GOLD FOR WHY NOT WORKSHOP’S NEW LOGO

Joba received another Gold in Logos for Social Change Award for Why Not Workshop’s new logo. Why Not Workshop is an educational nonprofit that supports underprivileged students who have difficulty thriving in a traditional school environment by providing them with an innovative curriculum that places emphasis on content instruction through hands-on, real-world, problem-based experiences.

Why Not Workshop seeks to bridge the learning gap created by traditional instruction through its innovative curriculum and after school programs. WNW wanted an identity, promotional materials, and website that looked inclusive but also reflected its modern curriculum, and when creating the logo, we wanted to embody just that.

The WNW logomark is of a pencil, the adopted universal symbol of education, that includes the concept of bridging students with curriculum through the acronym W (student), N (bridge), and W (curriculum). The logomark is paired with a modern sans-serif typography and a bright color scheme.

SILVER FOR BLUEFIELD STATE COLLEGE

Joba also came home with Silver in Branding for Social Change Award for our work on the Bluefield State College's Big Blues Rebrand. As part of a rebrand, the college wanted a mascot who represented teamwork, loyalty, and pride.

Both a head and full-body versions of the great dane mascot were created and positioned in a stance that looked intimidating without the need for including sharp teeth or a growling grin. The ears were pointed backwards, however, as a reference to the college’s previous “devil” identity and its horns.

BRONZE FOR PUT ME ON

Joba won Bronze in Websites Design for Social Change Award for Put me On by GoPuff. Put Me On is an online platform that helps develop and nurture a community of entrepreneurs from underrepresented communities to grow their businesses and thrive on the GoPuff platform.

Twice a year, GoPuff brings together a class of diverse entrepreneurs to take part in a six-month program. As part of the program, their products are made available on GoPuff, and they are able to participate in networking events, monthly workshops, and 1:1 building sessions. Joba was tasked with creating the identity, branding, and website design for the Put Me On platform and the vetting process.

The identity needed to stay true to the GoPuff brand by including fun and bold images, fonts, and colors, but also be informative to the applicants and program’s mentors.

We created an identity and series of photographs that were playful and energetic, then paired them with a bold typeface and bright colors. The website, which consists of twelve subpages, was designed to be engaging and inviting.
